Hester Street worked with Ascendant Neighborhood Development Corporation and the Northern Manhattan Collaborative (NMC) to conduct an in-depth analysis of several sites identified for potential development in East Harlem, exploring feasible opportunities to advance the goals of the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan (EHNP). Throughout the process, we reaffirmed the EHNP’s development principles that prioritize the neighborhood’s affordable housing, resilient development, and cultural and community resources.
Our team provided mapping and geographic and spatial analysis services on plans for select sites across East Harlem, which include an NYPD parking lot, an existing Human Resources Administration Multi-Services Center and ancillary MTA and transit buildings. We produced a culminating poster and presentation for the NMC that surveyed the existing conditions, offered development precedents and proposed site-specific recommendations that would meet the resident-driven, transit-oriented, public health and other goals of the EHNP.
