In Bushwick, Hester Street has been facilitating a community plan process with a steering committee of local residents, community board members, and representatives from local organizations. The goal of this process is to create a truly inclusive and comprehensive plan that balances the desire to create and preserve affordable housing with the need to preserve Bushwick’s character. This process is in close collaboration with local City Councilmembers Antonio Reynoso and Rafael Espinal and the NYC Departments of City Planning, and Housing, Preservation, and Development – effectively shaping a new model of how community stakeholders can work directly with the city agencies to create a neighborhood rezoning plan.
