East Ironbound Neighborhood Plan

Hester Street worked with the Ironbound Community Corporation to develop a neighborhood plan for the East Ironbound neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. Throughout the eight month process, we worked with ICC, other partner organizations, residents, and friends of the neighborhood to learn what it is about the neighborhood that people love, what they would like to improve, and what new things could be created as a result of the neighborhood plan. We conducted research on past plans and existing conditions and used asset mapping to analyze neighborhood demographics, public health, environmental burdens, and social justice efforts among other indicators. The process included Steering Committee meetings, public meetings, stakeholder interviews, informal engagement, and meetings with the City of Newark.
