Description

In the Bronx, Hester Street (HST) worked closely with CASA and the Bronx Coalition for Community Visioning to help develop and support a community visioning process with two main goals: 1) to engage a broad swath of Bronx residents, and 2) to develop core principles and supporting policy demands to present to the City for consideration in the rezoning proposal. The 73-block area under consideration by the Department of City Planning (DCP) is a corridor that cuts across 6 distinct neighborhoods.

HST led a series of public meetings – info sessions, visioning workshops, and town hall-style presentations – interspersed with a widely conducted survey, and a robust schedule of Steering Committee meetings. The Steering Committee used the feedback from the workshops to develop an actionable policy platform, which was presented to the community and to the City.
